Day Two

Day Two of our month o' Marriott fun. The kids found the card shown above with their cereal. On the back was instructions to make ornaments.

1/2 cup cornstarch, 1 cup baking soda, 3/4 cup water. Stir in a pot on the stovetop at med heat until the mixture thickens like this. Let cool.

Knead the dough once it cools. If it is still sticky add a bit of cornstarch to your hands and keep kneading until it looks like this. Then give everyone a chunk and make into shapes on a square of aluminum foil.

Place aluminum foil on a cookie sheet. Bake at 175 for about an hour.

Paint!

The fancy one in the middle is Alex's, not that anyone who knows us needed that explained to them.... The kids have caught on already and begged us for a full ten minutes to tell them what we are doing tomorrow. This activity was much shorter than yesterday's, but it was still valuable. It's not practical to spend hours every day just playing with our kids, but little bursts of time on busy days can make all the difference. Also, we did this activity last week at a friend's house. The kids weren't disappointed that it was repeat, they just appreciated the time hanging out, being creative with their parents.
